Day 138: Stealin’, 1966

I recently heard that Weir did a version of Stealin’ with someone well-known – perhaps it was a discussion of the Dylan and the Dead rehearsals on Tales from the Golden Road? Anyway, wherever I heard it I got the song planted in my mind. I wanted to jump in the wayback machine for today and this track just jumped out at me.

I don’t really have much else to say about this tune so enjoy!

This has a total garage band vibe to it. The organ has that go-go dancer vibe to it and the drums sound like they were recorded three rooms away. The second half of the verses have a really great rhythmic component to them that diverge from the straight-ahead nature of the rest of the song. The singing is a bit rough here, especially Phil, but Jerry is able to rattle of a nice little solo near the end.
